The first time I read this poem in an essay in the middle third PSU with that teacher who had something special, I did not know how to define. He soon became a very important person, him or unwittingly influenced much in my life. Always listening to you carefully, always mindful of even the smallest details. A strange times our conversations about life, literature, music, dreams, trips we wanted to do, so many things ... But do not feel homesick, I just stick with a nice flavor of the day. Above all, I'll take everything I learned from him and his philosophy of life. ~
ITHACA (Constantine Cavafy)
When you go on the trip to Ithaca
that the road is long,
full of adventure, full of knowledge.
At Lestrygonians and the Cyclops, The angry Poseidon
fear not,
such things will never find in your path, remains high
if your thinking, if a select
thrill your spirit and your body seizes.
At Lestrygonians and the Cyclops, and the fierce Poseidon
not find,
in your soul if you do not carry,
if your soul does not set them up before you.
that the road is long.
there be many summer mornings when with much
said, how happy you enter ports
never seen:
stop at Phoenician markets,
and purchase fine merchandise,
amber and ebony, ivory and coral, and sensual perfumes
of all kinds, the more abundant
sensual perfumes as you can;
visit many Egyptian cities
to learn and learn from the wise.
always in your mind have to Ithaca.
arrive there is your destiny.
But do not hurry the journey at all.
better than last for many years
old and anchor at the island, rich with all
gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to give you wealth.
Ithaka gave you the beautiful voyage.
Without it had not crossed our path.
She has nothing to give you.
And if you find her poor, Ithaka has not deceived you. Wise
and came to be, with so much experience, and have understood
the Ithaca what they mean.
